True Value Co., a Chicago, IL, based company, was recently fined $54,000 by the U.S. Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) for violating federal hazardous materials regulations for air transport. According to the FAA, the hardware store out of the Jonesboro, GA, location offered a four-liter metal container of flammable epoxy paint to FedEx for shipment by air to Crossett, AK. Workers at the FedEx cargo facility discovered the shipment leaking.

The agency also alleged that the packaged lacked the shipper’s dangerous goods declaration and was not properly packaged and marked. In addition, True Value failed to ensure that each of its employees who handle hazardous materials for transport was properly trained.
